The Hucksters (1947)

So I thought I would post something for discussion. Hope that's alright! Have any of you seen the film The Hucksters starring Clark Cable and Deborah Kerr? It's Ms. Kerr's American film debut and the supporting cast is amazing. The film is about the advertising game--and everyone is trying to sell something to someone. I thought it was very cleverly done and possibly a bit controversial for 1947. Definitely poking a sharp stick at the whole advertising business. I don't want to spoil it if some of you haven't seen it, but if there are some who have, I would love to discuss it.

EDIT: Also, I didn't tag this entry because I wasn't sure what you might want. I thought about tagging it "Advertising" but also maybe "Clark Gable."

I wish I could join in the discussion, but unfortunately I haven't seen this film. It doesn't look like it's available on DVD. :( Thank you for starting the topic though. :) Hopefully others have seen it.

I recorded it on my DVR from TCM so just keep your eye out on the schedule. I'm sure it will be on again. Having a DVR for TCM is so essential. ;)

Tagging--good question. Tagging for concept is really tough in a community, since "aboutness" (my favorite non-word ever) is so subjective. But definitely, tags for film titles, actors, directors, etc., those are so straightforward! Go for it!

Heck, you know what? Let's be bold. Let's tag for concept too. Why not? And if the group disagrees on what something's about, we can discuss it till the cows come home and it'll be some fun. :-D

Okies. I'll tag away! Yes, definitely check the movie out. It's one of those films where I wasn't expecting a whole lot but was completely surprised.

EDIT: I tried to tag the entry but it wouldn't let me. So I don't know if that is a DW thing or a setting for the comm. *shrugs*

I might have made it mod-only tag in the beginning. I reckon we can change that, it's not like we've got a lot of troublemakers and ruffians around here. :-D

OK--I think it's fixed. Took me a minute to figure it out. :) I had it originally set where any member could add an existing tag, but only admin could add new tags to the list. Now it's set for members to do that too. If you feel like giving it a try, I'd love to know for sure if it works! :)
