Hey there--anyone know about a possible re-release of this title on DVD in the US? It's out of print and my copy is AWOL. I'd love to see them produce a better DVD edition than they did the first time around, too, while they're at it.
Checked out MGM.com but no news there.

It looks like they use a distribution company, moviesunlimited, I haven't bought anything from them before, but since it's connected with TCM, I assume they are trustworthy?

Date: 2009-05-10 02:17 pm (UTC)I was thinking about it last night and I figured I should buy it because I don't own it on DVD and I really should. Probably will pick up a TCM t-shirt while I'm at it. I'll let you know how it goes. :] Hopefully it won't be a case like you said where it's out of stock and they just haven't updated their website yet.
Although I always prefer to watch films in widescreen, I'm personally not to bothered if it's in fullscreen.
The only other information I could find on a new DVD release was some random comment someone made on imdb, but the comment was posted in July '08 so I'm not sure what is going on now.

Date: 2009-05-10 01:18 am (UTC)Hey, I'll ask you, but anyone else is welcome to pipe up too: what do you think would increase contributions on this group? We definitely have the potential for a lively community here, what with a small but growing membership and at least a few people who comment actively and stuff. I've tried to hold off on posting a bunch because I don't want this to be the Laughingrat Classic Film comm, you know? But since I started the comm, I feel obliged to try to nurture it, hence the "seed" posts I've popped in here in an attempt to get things started. I dunno, I feel like there's something I should be doing that would work better to encourage people, though, since clearly seeding the comm with a few posts hasn't done anything yet. ;)

I haven't have a lot of time to think about what to contribute here, and while you have certainly not made me feel like "x topic is unwelcome" I've yet to sit down and think about what might spark discussion. I run a few comms over on LJ which don't get a lot of traffic, despite initial "I'm so glad this comm is here!" interest, and I assume that to be my fault in not modeling discussion--or maybe it's just lack of day-to-day interest in Orson Welles, etc?
Your community rules are really open and relaxed, and that's good. But I wonder if people don't feel comfy just, say, slapping up a photo of Garbo and gushing for a moment. Which I'm sure no one would mind much and might lead somewhere else.
I'm happy to help however I can, so if you've something specific to ask of me go ahead. Otherwise I'll certainly come up with something in the next few days to talk about.

Date: 2009-05-10 02:25 pm (UTC)I tend to comment rather than post to most of the communities I am a part of. Mainly because I can never think of a good enough topic to create a whole post about.
I really do enjoy your posts. I don't mind at all if you post a lot. I'd rather one person post a lot to start discussion than no one saying anything at all.
